UN fails to convince EU to reconnect Russian Ag Bank to SWIFT

GENEVA, Jun 13 (PRIME) -- The U.N., despite all efforts, could not persuade the E.U. to reconnect Russian Agricultural Bank to SWIFT, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told reporters on June 10 after talks with the U.N. in Geneva.

“And, of course, the essential question that we asked, demanded is the reswifting (reconnection to the payment system SWIFT) Russian Agricultural Bank. In fact, today the U.N. admitted that such reswifting, such actions cause negative reaction from those who make decisions in the E.U. and in other Western capitals,” he said.

The decision on whether or not to extend the Istanbul agreement on grain will be made only on the basis of Russia's interests, Vershinin said.

Russia remains disappointed with the non-implementation of the memorandum concluded with the U.N. in the framework of the grain deal"regarding the exports of Russian agricultural products, he also said.

According to Vershinin, Russia is ready to continue talks with the U.N. on the implementation of the memorandum on the export of Russian agricultural products, provided that these discussions bring results.
